What to wear, what to wear… it’s date night and you’re standing in front of your closet trying to make a decision. The clock is ticking and your mind is engaged in rapid-fire hypotheticals: “What if I wear my dark dressy jeans and that cream colored sweater?” “What about that shirt with the cute ruffles?”  “Is a button-down really not a dress shirt?” Caught in the fashion dilemma, we can turn to psychological research and gain insight into the choices we make, the process of deciding, and the impressions we create when we wear what we wear on date night. 1. Looking for love? Try red You know that song “Lady in Red”? Recent evidence suggests men have a powerful response to women wearing red, seeing them as more attractive and sexually desirable than if they wear other colors. The seductive effect of red has been documented for not only American men, but men from around the world suggesting it may be a global, culturally-universal phenomenon. Because red works its enchanting effects ...

Should you say “I LOVE YOU” during sex?

Image
Foreplay, mixing it up, and expressing your feelings are behaviors that satisfied couples do regularly, according to new study. You may agree or not, but scientific data supports the point of view that talking about love, whilst in bed, is even more important than foreplay and wearing sexy lingerie, to ensure you are sexually satisfied. The study, one of the largest of its kind to date, examined what contributes to a satisfying long-term sex life. The findings indicate that foreplay, setting the mood, mixing it up, and expressing love are all behaviors that satisfied couples said they do regularly. Researchers from Chapman University in the US analyzed the answers of 39,000 married or living together heterosexual men and women who have been with their partner for at least three years. They found that sexually satisfied men and women engage in more intimate behavior, with 75 percent of satisfied men declaring that they say "I love you" whilst they have sex and 74 percent of sa...

Life experiences determine who we find attractive, not genetics!

Image
Recent Study We all know the saying 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder', and the fact that there are a whole lot of strange-looking people out there happily loved up would suggest that it is true. But scientists have now performed the biggest test so far, analyzing the preferences of more than 35,000 people, and have shown that we really do all have a unique 'type'. In fact, the study showed that even identical twins - who share nearly 100 percent of their DNA - are not attracted to the same people, suggesting that it is our experiences, rather than our genes, determine whether we find someone hot or not. "We estimate that an individual's aesthetic preferences for faces agree about 50 percent, and disagree about 50 percent, with others," lead researchers of the project, Laura Germine from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University, and Jeremy Wilmer of Wellesley College, explain in a press release. "This fits with the common intuition th...

Genetic sexual attraction

Image
Q: Do you worry about the potential genetic problems associated with having kids with your biological father? A: Nope. I wouldn’t risk having a kid if I thought it would be harmful. I’ve done my research. Everybody thinks that kids born in incestuous relationships will definitely have genetic problems, but that’s not true. That happens when there’s years of inbreeding, like with the royal family. Incest has been around as long as humans have. Everybody just needs to deal with it as long as nobody is getting hurt or getting pressured or forced. There are so many people having kids who will be passing on health problems, people with diabetes or mental health issues, or AIDS. My mom was allowed to have kids and both her and her mom were bipolar. My research tells me that the only real genetic risk is high blood pressure, which is controllable. I think people only worry about it because they look to the genetic problems that occurred when incest was happening generation upon generation. Th...
